Holiness as Godlikeness

Sarah shared with us that this appears to be a two stage process…

  1.  Inward and moral – 2 Corinthians 4:16

‘Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day.’

       2.   Outward and bodily – Phil 3:21

‘[Jesus Christ] will transform [metaschematizoó] our lowly body to be like his glorious body by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself.

Her understanding was that, as Christians, we now experience, through the grace of God, what, in effect, is a continuing work that will culminate in glorification.

‘Paul describes a Spirit-enabled transformation into the divine image.  This transformation involves a comprehension of the purposes of God and takes a particular Christological shape – both moral and ultimately bodily.’

Our conclusion:  ‘Those in Christ experience a real transformation of the human condition.  It is a corparte transformation which points to a renewed humanity.
