Jackie and Jamie’s African blog 2

So far so good…

Thank you for all the lovely messages of encouragement, and your prayers. We feel very blessed by them.

We have made it to South Africa safely. A bit a of a gruelling 11hr flight, thankfully it was direct, Heathrow to Johannesburg. Did we arrive to 25 degrees and glorious sunshine? For a country in drought, when the Scots arrived, we were met with rain and a strong breeze. No ice and sleet, thankfully!

We have had a 5 hour minibus ride, and we have arrived at the Hands at Work volunteers centre – ‘The Hub’.

On route we stopped at a service station to grab a coffee and stretch our legs. We were greeted with this rather different view out the lavy window…

Local wildlife.

Tonight is mostly going to be a meet and greet, and some orientation around the Hub. We will rest up, and set ourselves up for tomorrow.

Tomorrow reality hits home. We have our first trip out to the community. It is bound to be a huge shock to the system.

My daily inspirational scripture that I receive seems very fitting today:

“In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ””

Acts‬ ‭20:35‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This point of reflection seems to be a good point to sign off today. We would be most grateful for your continued prayer. In particular the work done by Hands at Work and the local communities, but also our safety and strength, and the success of the mission.

For the Glory of God, may His grace, and blessings rain down and be shared by us all.
